Laces
Straps used for tying a shoe. The laces are crisscrossed and then strung into eyelets helping them to stay into place.
Last
The foot-shaped mold on which a shoe is constructed. The shape of the mold influences the function of the shoe; the straighter the last, the more stable the shoe. The more curved the last, the faster but more unstable the shoe.
Lateral
The outside edge of the upper of a shoe.
Lift
One of the several layers made of leather or leather board used to construct a heel.

Lining
The inside material of a shoe which surrounds the foot. Can be made of a variety of fabrics such as leather or synthetic material.

Deep rubber treads on the underside of the outsole to prevent slipping in off-road conditions.
